The Madonna Renewal Center Opening, Freeport, IL USA
By Frank J. Munda- 7-7-2018 – The long awaited opening of the Madonna Renewal Center was celebrated on June 23, 2018. The opening of the center commenced with the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass by Bishop David Malloy, Bishop of Rockford Illinois. The opening of the Madonna Renewal Center is truly a remarkable event because it will help empower women to become self-sufficient while they learn more about how to care for their coming child.
Many of the sisters from the order of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ ( IHM)came home to the mother house here in Freeport to help with this beautiful celebration. Prayers of thanksgiving and praise were offered to our Lord in gratitude for this opening. Many of the dedicated volunteers who helped bring this project to the completion of the first phase were present at the opening. Besides Bishop David Malloy, Pastor Ken Anderson of St. Thomas parish and Father Timothy Barr, pastor of St. Joseph and St. Mary’s parishes in Freeport were also in attendance as were Deacon Norm Kokol, from Richmond, Illinois, and seminarian John McFadden.
I have had the pleasure of knowing the sisters for several years now, and I must say it is truly a privilege and a pleasure to know these beautiful daughters of Christ. Their love of Jesus Christ and their service to the community are truly acts of selfless love. I love hearing the Sisters sing and dance because their joy is infectious and lifts up my spirit. The Freeport community is truly blessed to have these servants of Christ living in our midst.
The sisters have expressed this, but I would like to say that over the past four years I have watched so many people, not only from our community here but from other parts of the state, come and give of their time and talents. To the ladies and men who have had countless garage sales, fundraisers and worked tirelessly to make this historic event possible I ask God for special graces and blessings for you and your families.
The video which you are about to see is only a brief moment in this historic event. It is impossible for cameras to capture the fullness of this moment, but I hope you will enjoy our humble attempt.
A new ministry in Freeport, Illinois will serve as a home of renewal, hope and dignity for women. To make it a reality, we need your help.
The Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, also known as “The Sisters of IHM” or “The Blue Nuns,” are transforming the huge Saint Francis School building into the Madonna Renewal Center, a safe haven for adult pregnant women and their infants. Here, women who face unplanned motherhood and need support will encounter and embrace a new future.
To accomplish this mission, the Sisters of IHM will need financial, volunteer and prayer support. Please click on the link below to find out how you can help.
When I found out I was pregnant, I thought I had ruined my life. I had no idea I was on the road to redemption, not the road to ruin. All I could think of was the what-ifs. The one what-if I didn’t think of was “What if somebody cared enough to help?” Someone did, and it changed everything.
Before I came to MRC, I had already made almost every wrong choice a person could make. Now I not only make wise decisions, I know who I am, how to be happy and how to be a success. Our little family is at the beginning of a really wonderful journey.
